Kempmusik for your entertainment...

Matt Kemp is a native Oklahoman, who acquired a love for music from his dad, Randy, who was an afternoon FM DJ in Oklahoma City. Matt bought his first guitar at age 10, and wrote his first song a few days later. That “song” didn’t have any chords, but it started a journey that continues today. The routine required in high school was rigid, and under-stimulating so Matt would often cut classes.  While truant from school he would spend that time at home in his room to practice guitar and record music using a 4- track cassette recorder. His future looked bleak without formal education, until one day a close family friend advised that if he could finished high school and went to college, he could study any subject that interested him. Thankfully, Matt followed the advice because he graduated high school in 2001 and decided to go to college to study music, eventually earning an AA in music performance- guitar from Rose State College in 2004. Since graduation he has had a career well immersed in music and performance. He has performed with multiple groups across the country from Louisiana to Wyoming and California to Florida, while simultaneously working a 20 year career in broadcasting, as producer and host of the popular Sunday Night Blues Cruise on KRXO (107.7 then 104.5fm in OKC).  Today, he works as an audio producer for RK1 Studios where he creates a wide variety of content for radio and TV, including but never limited to, Voice-Over, advertisements, film/video/animation, local bands & singer-songwriters. His music has been used by national brands like 7-11, Schwabs Meat Company & Braums. He has also worked to enrich the local music scene promoting other musicians by serving for almost a decade as president of the Oklahoma Blues Society, a local non profit, and has held an adjunct faculty position at the Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma. As a producer, over the years he has collaborated with many other local favorite artists such as Miss Blues, Stephen Salewon, Kalo, Dita’s Tears, Carol Morgan, Caleb McGee, Jabee & Denver Duncan, Steve Coleman, Cara Black, Lacy Saunders & Devin Derrick to name a few. In late 2020, he formed Kempmusik LLC to function as a record label, and to oversee his various projects. Currently he performs 3+ nights per week at Mojos blues club in OKC, and is also working on a new EP, titled Punky’s Magnificent Creature, expected to be available before Christmas 2022.  From his formative years ditching school to work on music, to working for a music school, and still to this day, Matt has never stopped creating and making music. Matt Kemp is definitely one to watch, music enthusiasts worldwide can expect many more exciting things from him to come.
